NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The Manhattanville College men's basketball team hit the road for the first time this season on Tuesday night, outscoring host John Jay by 13 in the second half to pick up a 66-54 win. The Valiants climb back above .500 with the win, now sitting at 3-2 on the season.
After being held to just five total points over his last two games,
Jake Dunn (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) scored a season-high 19 in the win to lead the Valiant offense.
Petey Galgano (New Rochelle, N.Y./Wilbraham & Monson Academy (Mass.)) and
Connor Yetman (Sydney, Australia/The Scots College (H.S.)) also reach double figures, scoring 13 and 10, respectively.
Yetman set the pace on the rebound game, pulling down 11 boards for his first double-double of the season. Dunn had 9 rebounds, while Galgano added eight of his own as the trio were the leading playmakers for the Valiants on both sides of the court all night long.
Chris Brown (Miami, Fla./Coral Gables Senior) had four blocks in the contest, tying his career high.
The Bloodhounds would end the first half with a 24-23 lead as the Valiants struggled to find their rhythm through the opening 20 minutes. Manhattanville shot 24 percent from the field in the half, including going 0-for-12 from beyond the arc. Despite their struggles, the Valiants were able to hang closely in part due to their 7-for-9 mark from the free throw line in the half. John Jay faired marginally better in their early shooting, going 10-for-35 from the field (29%) in the half. Neither team would lead by more than four in the half, with just six total points scored in the final three minutes. A
Jackson Leech (Chicago, Ill./Von Steuben) layup put the road team up by three, but John Jay would make the final two baskets of the frame to take the one point lead into the locker room for halftime.
The Valiants were able to take control in the second as shots finally began to fall, hitting four of nine attempts from deep as the team shot 54 percent in the half. While the lead remained within the range of four either way to the first seven minutes, Manhattanville pieced together their best offensive string of the night with a 13-1 run to permanently reclaim the lead. John Jay threatened, cutting the Manhattanville advantage down to two with seven minutes remaining, but the Valiants scored eight straight to regain some distance and were able to close out the contest.
