Women's Hockey Falls to Utica in Final Minutes

ELMSFORD, N.Y. – In a game that went down to the wire, the Manhattanville College women's hockey fell to Utica College, Saturday, Feb. 20. The Valiants (0-2) came back from a two-goal deficit in the third period two tie the game with two minutes before giving up a goal with 1:45 left in the third period.

For the second day in a row, Manhattanville faced a multi-goal deficit after the first period against the Pioneers (3-1). The Valiants weathered the storm in the second period and were able to crawl their way back into the game in the third thanks to heroics from sophomore forward Morgan Miller (St. Augustine, Fla./Gilmour Academy).

Miller scored both goals for the Crimson and White in the third period. Miller's first goal came seven minutes into the period. Miller and freshman forward Grace Felicio (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional) carried a two-on-one into the Utica zone and Miller was able to find the back of the net. Felicio was credited with the assist. The second goal of the period came off a long pass from freshman defender Faithe Harris (Castlegar, B.C./Pacific Steelers (JWHL)). She found the stick of Miller who buried the puck into the top corner of the net.

Manhattanville's elation was short-lived as Utica found the back of the net 24 seconds later. A shot from the point found its way past sophomore goalie Franny Gerardi (Yonkers, N.Y./Selects Academy) and the 3-2 score line held until the end of the game. Gerardi made 34 saves on 37 shots in the game to back up her 41 save performance from the day before.

The Valiants return to the ice Friday, Feb. 26, to take on Elmira College. Puck drop is set for 2:00 P.M. at Westchester Skating Academy in Elmsford, N.Y.
