ELMSFORD, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's hockey team was defeated by Elmira College, Friday, Feb. 26. The Valiants (0-3) fell by a final score of 7-1 in the home contest. The lone goal was scored by sophomore forward
Morgan Miller (St. Augustine, Fla./Gilmour Academy) and sophomore goalie
Franny Gerardi (Yonkers, N.Y./Selects Academy) made 46 saves.
The Soaring Eagles (2-0) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after one period of play. The Valiants were outshot 15-2 and found themselves down headed into the first intermission. Manhattanville continued to battle in the second period. They allowed just one Elmira goal on the power play and tallied four shots to the Eagles' 10. They would head into the final period of play down 3-0.
In the third period Elmira began to pull away from the Valiants. They recorded four more goals and 28 shots during the final 20 minutes. Manhattanville got on the board when Miller found the back of the net midway through period and sophomore forward
Maddy Davies (Valley City, N.D./Northern Cyclones (EWHC)) was credited with the assist. Gerardi finished the game with 46 saves on 53 shots faced. It was her second 40-save performance of the season.
The Valiants return to the ice tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 27. They travel to Pine Valley, N.Y, where they will once again take on the Soaring Eagles of Elmira College. Puck drop is set for 4:00 P.M.
