Scoring started quickly in the first period. The Soaring Eagles (3-0) were on the board just two and a half minutes into the game and the Valiants (0-4) found themselves down early. Elmira tallied one more midway through the period to double their lead at 2-0. Manhattanville continued to scrap and Lopes tucked a shot into the top left corner on the power play to cut the lead to one with 3:11 left in the period. DeFusco and freshman defender
Grace Genest (Wake Forest, N.C./The Gunnery (Conn.)) were credited with assists. The 2-1 score line held going into the first intermission.
Elmira took control of the game in the second period. They scored four times in the second and two of the four came on the power play. Manhattanville found itself in the penalty box four times in the period. Gerardi made 31 saves through the first 40 minutes. Elmira then scored four more in the third to reach their total of 10. Lopes' second goal came once again on the power play and was assisted by Defusco for her second of the game. The Valiants finished the game two of three on the power play.
The Crimson and White return to the ice Friday, March 5, against Wilkes University. The team will travel to Wilkes Barre, Pa., for a 5:00 P.M. puck drop.
