PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's lacrosse team picked up its first win of the season on the road against Purchase College, Monday, April 12. Sophomore midfielder
Maura Kelly (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) led the Valiants (1-2) in points in goals, finishing with six goals and two assists for eight total points in the 22-7 win.
The Panthers (0-3) opened up the scoring just 12 seconds in to take a quick 1-0 advantage. Manhattanville answered back just 31 seconds later with a goal from junior defender
Caity Bianchi (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City). The two teams traded goals again after that and the score was 2-2 with 22 minutes remaining in the first half. The Valiants then went on an 11-2 run to end the half. Seven different players scored during the run and Manattanville held a 13-4 lead at the half.
Purchase once again struck first at the start of the second half. The Panthers scored twice to cut the lead to 13-6. The Crimson and White then went on another run. This time it was a 9-1 run to end the game and junior attacker
Lara Keenan (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central) led all Valiants in second half goals with three. The final goal came from Kelly with 1:03 left and Manhattanville left Purchase with a 22-7 win.
Three different Valiants scored more than five points. Kelly finished with eight points, Keenan finished with five goals and one assist for six points and senior midfielder
Hailey DeStasio (West Hempstead, N.Y./West Hempstead) scored four goals and had two assist for six total points.
Manhattanville returns to action later this week, Friday, April 16, for a home matchup against Skyline Conference opponent Mount St. Mary College. The opening draw is set for 3:30 P.M. at GoValiants.com Field.
