Women's Lacrosse picks up First Home Win, Defeats Mount St. Mary

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's lacrosse team won their second straight game against Skyline Conference opponent Mount Saint Mary College, Friday, April 16. Sophomore midfielder Maura Kelly (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) and junior midfielder Lara Keenan (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central) each had seven points to lead the Valiants (2-2) in the 21-12 win.

Manhattanville came flying out of the gates to start the game and never look back. They took an 8-1 lead over the Knights (1-3) within the first 10 minutes of play. The run was fueled by Keenan and Kelly who combined for five of the eight goals. Mount St. Mary answered with a run of their own scoring six of the next seven goals to cut the lead to 9-7. The Knights would not come any closer for the rest of the contest. Keenan and sophomore attacker Marisa D'Angelo (Wantagh, N.Y./MacArthur) each scored to bring the score to 11-7 at the half.

The Valiants only extended their lead in the second half. The team led by as many as 10 goals and then ended with the final score of 21-12. Junior attacker Brialee Logue (Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) led all second half scorers with four goals in her first action of the season. Manhattanville ended the game on a 4-1 run to put the Knights away.

The Crimson and White saw six different players score two or more goals in the win. Junior midfielder Kerry Carr (New Hartford, N.Y./Millbrook School) and senior midfielder Hailey DeStasio (West Hempstead, N.Y./West Hempstead) led the team with three assists each. DeStasio also contributed two goals. Keenan made her presence felt in all facets of the game, leading the team in points, caused turnovers and draw controls.

The Valiants return to action, Tuesday, April 20, for a matchup against conference opponent Farmingdale State College. The game is set for 3:00 P.M. at GoValiants.com Field.
