Women's Lacrosse Regular Season Finale Spoiled by St. Joseph's (L.I.)

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's lacrosse team closed out the regular season with a loss to Skyline Conference opponent St. Joseph's College-Long Island, Saturday, April 24. Junior midfielder Lara Keenan (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central) and sophomore midfielder Maura Kelly (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) each led the Valiants (2-4) with two goals apiece in the 12-7 road loss.

Manhattanville struck first when Kelly found the back of the net just two and a half minutes into the game. Senior midfielder Hailey DeStasio (West Hempstead, N.Y./West Hempstead) was credited with the assist on the play. The Golden Eagles (5-2) then scored three-straight and never relinquished their lead. The score at the end of the first half was 8-3 with Manhattanville's other two goals coming from Keenan and junior midfielder Kerry Carr (New Hartford, N.Y./Millbrook School).

The second half was more competitive with each side scoring two goals apiece. The Valiants went on a three-goal run after trailing 10-3 to cut the deficit to just four. The surge was not enough as the Golden Eagles tacked on two more goals of their own to extend the lead to 12-6. Manhattanville scored once more before the game ended and the score was 12-7. Junior defender Kasey Molito (Whitman, Mass./Whitman-Hanson Regional) performed well in the loss, causing three turnovers and scooping up four ground balls to go along with her goal.

The Crimson and White will play next on Wednesday, April 28, in the Skyline Semifinals. They will travel to Farmingdale State College to take on the Rams at a to-be-determined time.
