PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College softball team eight-game winning streak was snapped with a 1-0 decision in the Skyline Conference opener before returning to winning ways by claiming the 6-1 non-conference win Sunday afternoon over the visiting Mount Saint Mary College Knights (12-6, 10-4 Skyline) from Manhattanville College Softball Field. The split moves the Valiants to 10-3 on the season and 6-3 in conference play.

• Manhattanville threatened in the fifth and again in the sixth inning, but were unable to capitalize on Knight starter Bridget Morris as the Valiants stranded three and two runners on base, respectively.

• After a scoreless three innings, Manhattanville broke the scoring ice with a single run in the fourth. Amaya Esparza cracked her third-career home run to give the Valiants the early 1-0 lead.
• Mount Saint Mary tied the game at one (1-1) in the sixth inning as Morgan O'Neill's sacrifice fly out plated Laura Dentato.
• Casillas kept her hitting streak alive, extending to 13 games, with a single through the right side in the fourth inning.
• The Valiants put together five runs scored in the home half of the sixth on Knight starter Nicole Rosner. Esparza reached base off a single to left center and then scored the game-winning run three batters later off of Jayleen Torres' (Bellflower, Calif./Downey) double. Holding a 4-1 lead with one out on the board, Giovanna Liggett (Fountain Valley, Calif./Edison) also extended her hitting streak to 12 games as she singled through the left side to push across Casillas and Franson to settle the 6-1 final.
• In six innings of work, Valiant starter Jasmine Feliciano (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) (5 H, R, ER, BB, K) earned her third win of the season while Kylie Pester (Spokane, Wash./Lewis and Clark) tossed one inning of no-hit relief (K, BB) to lock down the save.
