Key Moments
  • After two scoreless innings, Manhattanville broke the scoring ice with two runs scored on Dolphin reliever Amir Nitowski in the third inning. Anthony Quatrochi (Fishkill, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) used a leadoff single to reach base and three batters later scored off of Tyler Mandel's (Scarsdale, N.Y./Scarsdale) RBI single to score the game's initial run. Sitting on third base was Jack Matero (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) who scored on a balk to double the Valiants advantage, 2-0.
  • Mount Saint Vincent responded with two runs of their own in the third on Valiant starter TJ Brescia (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley). Jake Blinstrub earned a leadoff walk before touching home plate off of Matt DiNorcia's double to slice the deficit in half. A fielding error by shortstop Matt Lynch (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) pushed across Matt DiNorcia to knot the game at two (2-2).
  • The Dolphins took its first lead of the game in the fourth as Anthony Nocero's RBI double scored Tyler Paulino, 3-2. The Valiants answered quickly in the fifth capitalizing off of a bases juiced situation. Quatrochi advanced 90 feet home after Mandel grounded into a double play to make it a three-all game.
  • Manhattanville regained the lead for good after putting together a three-run sixth. A double steal by Johnny Mariano (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester) and Lynch sat them on second and third before Mariano took advantage of a miscue by catcher Matt Albert for the Valiants to claim the 4-3 lead. Lynch scored the team's fifth run off Nitowski's wild pitch and Quatrochi followed by scoring off an error by third baseman Michael Grisanti to take the 6-3 advantage.
  • Pressimone's run-scoring double pushed across Mariano, which proved to be the game-winning run in the eighth inning. The Valiants tacked on two more insurances runs in the ninth, highlighted by a two-RBI triple by Mariano to conclude Nitowski's outing.
  • The Dolphins attempted a final rally with three runs scored on Valiant reliever Nick Carita (Levittown, N.Y./Island Trees). Matt DiNorcia cracked a leadoff single to right before stealing home to pull within five runs. Nocero scored off of Grisanti's RBI-single after reaching off a single. Grisanti followed two batters later off a fielder's choice. Carita induced Joey DiNorcia into a groundout for the final out to settle the 9-6 final.
  • Brescia surrendered seven hits, three runs (two earned), three walks and fired four strikeouts in five innings of work to earn his second-career win. Myles Durney (Port Chester, N.Y./Port Chester) (H, 2 BB) and Carita (3 H, 3 ER) each retired one batter in three and one innings of relief work, respectively.
