PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College men's tennis team defeated Yeshiva University in the semifinal round of the Skyline Conference tournament, Thursday, May 6, to earn a spot in the Skyline Championship. The Valiants (5-1) won four singles matches and one doubles match to capture the 5-3 victory.
The Crimson and White only captured one doubles victory to start the match. Freshman
James Hourihan (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) and junior
Nick Schlapak (Dover, N.H./Dover) earned an 8-0 win in the first doubles slot. The Valiants trailed two matches to one headed into singles play.
Manhattanville earned to victories two singles victories early. Hourihan won 6-2, 6-1 at first singles and freshman
Shiel Loganadan (New York, N.Y./Mary McDowell Friends) won 6-2, 6-2 at sixth singles. It took two three set victories for the Crimson and White to close out that match. Schlapak won 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 at fifth singles and senior
Alex Fleischman (Riverside, Conn./King) won 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 to earn the Valiants a spot in the championship round.
Manhattanville will host Farmingdale State College, Sunday, May 9, in the Skyline Championship. The Valiants will look to hoist the first trophy of the year for Manhattanville.
