PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College softball team completed their weekend sweep of Skyline Conference opponent St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn, Sunday, May 9. The Valiants (18-3, 12-3 Skyline) brought swept the doubleheader with scores of 9-3 and 7-2. Freshma pitcher Kylie Pester (Spokane, Wash./Lewis and Clark) remains undefeated on the season after her game one victory.

Game 1: The Valiants took a commanding lead through the first two innings. The team tallied three runs in both the first and the second to take an early 6-0 lead. Homeruns from graduate student infielder Jaclyn DeLuca (Yonkers, N.Y./Sacred Heart (H.S.)) and junior infielder Giovanna Liggett (Fountain Valley, Calif./Edison) fueled the Valiant offense in the start of the game. The Crimson and White scored once in the sixth and twice in the seventh to total nine runs. Three seventh inning runs from the Bears (17-10, 12-9 Skyline) brought the score to 9-3.
Liggett and DeLuca led the way for Manhattanville in game one. Liggett finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and DeLuca finished 2-for-4 with three RBI. Pester pitched a complete game, gave up zero earned runs and had seven strikeouts to earn her sixth win of the season.

Game 2: The game was close through two innings. Each team scored one run in the first and the score was knotted at one headed into the third inning. Sophomore infielder Jayleen Torres (Bellflower, Calif./Downey) sparked the Valiant offense when she homered to center field, scoring two. Manhattanville scored once more before the inning was over and the score was 4-2 through three. After the third, the Bears failed to score a run and the Valiants scored once in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to give them the 7-2 victory.

Torres led the way for the Crimson and White in the victory. She went 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBI. Sophomore pitcher Charli Shinstine (Encinitas, Calif./San Dieguito Academy) earned her eighth win of the season, striking out nine batters and giving up only two earned runs.
