PURCHASE, N.Y.— The Manhattanville College women's soccer team earned their second victory of the season on Saturday afternoon, besting the New Jersey City University Gothic Knights 3-1. The win improves the Valiants' record to 2-1-0.
While the Valiants found themselves trailing for a majority of the day, as the only score in the first half was credited to Michelle Taras of the Gothic Knights off a corner kick which was backed in by an own goal of the Valiants.
The score would remain 1-0 in NJCU's favor for most of the second half until the Valiants dropped the gauntlet in the second half, scoring three goals in a span of ten minutes. Natalie Arcena got the ball rolling off a penalty shot in the 79th minute, which was quickly followed up by Kelly Barrera (Port Chester, NY/Port Chester High School) in the 82nd minute. Jennifer Xiong (Connelly Springs, N.C./East Burke) put on the finishing touches by scoring in the 88th minute to secure the Valiant victory. Overall, Manhattanville outshot NJCU 10-2 over the final 45 minutes.
In net, Alexa Pyatsky (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) record a pair of saves, one in each half.
