PURCHASE, N.Y. – Despite scoring first and holding a lead for a majority of the night, the Manhattanville women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday night against Kean University. The match moves the Valiants' record on the year to 2-1-1.
Scoreless through the opening 13 minutes,
Ashley Hayes (Springfield, Ore./Thurston) was able to fire a shot over the head of Kean netminder Julia Masucci to put the Valiants ahead in the first. The score would remain 1-0 in Manhattanville's favor for the remainder of the half and almost 40 minutes into the second as the Valiants took a controlled approach with ball management throughout the contest.
The game plan worked for the Valiants favor for much of the match, but the Cougars would outshoot Manhattanville 4-2 in the second half. The advantage in opportunities paid off in the 84
th minute as Brianna Trigueros shot the equalizer past
Alexa Pyatsky (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City).
Kean logged two quick shots in the initial overtime period, while the Valiants had a 3-2 shot advantage in the final overtime, with neither team able to successfully record the game-winner.
While Kean had a 10-9 total shot advantage on the night, the Valiants were able to fire five shots on goal compared to the Cougars' four.
Natalie Aracena (Bronx, N.Y./Riverdale Kingsbride Academy) recorded three shots on net, now leading the team with nine on the season. Pyatsky was once again solid in net, with the reigning Skyline Defensive Player of the Week making three saves in her 110 minutes of action.
