PURCHASE, N.Y. – Luis Granados (Pasadena, Calif./St. Francis) shined in net, but the Manhattanville College men's soccer team was unable to find the needed goal on Wednesday night as the Valiants dropped a 1-0 contest to Amherst College. The loss moves the Valiants to 0-3-1 to open up the year.
Â
Making his first start of the season, the sophomore Granados was downright dominant in net for the Valiants against an explosive Amherst attack. Granados made 12 saves on the night, with his only blemish coming in the sixth minute off a Bryce Johnson shot that put the Mammoths ahead 1-0. From there, the Valiant goalkeeper was unsolvable, keeping the Valiants within striking distance even after drawing two red cards that had the team playing shorthanded for a majority of the contest.
Â
In the 25
th minute, the Mammoths looked poised to add an insurance tally by firing off three shots in the span of 56 seconds, but Granados turned all three shots away to turn away the threat. He would also stop all six shots sent his way in the second half.
Â
The Valiants were held without a shot for the entirety of the first half, and while they were able to log six shots in the closing 45 minutes, none were on target to test Bernie White in the Amherst net.
Jostyn Blanco (Norwalk, CT/Brien Mcmahon High School) led the Valiants with a pair of shot attempts.
