PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – Competing against Skyline Conference opponents for the first time this season, the Manhattanville College women's tennis team picked up a 5-4 victory at St. Joseph's College (L.I.) on Tuesday evening. The win is the second straight for the Valiants, who are now 2-1 this season.
The Valiants opened up the competition with a pair of doubles wins.
Renay Charley (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) and
Bea Pretnar (Mohegan Lake, N.Y./Soundview Prep) earned an 8-1 victory in the first doubles position, while the duo of
Kelsey Ulzheimer (Franklin Square, N.Y./H. Frank Carey) and
Ella Brown (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) edged out an 8-7 win in the second doubles. The Golden Eagles took third doubles by default.
Manhattanville went 3-1 across their four singles matches on the day. Charley remained undefeated across both singles and doubles play on the season with a 6-0, 6-1 win in first singles. Pretnar was also dominant in her match in second singles, winning 6-1, 6-0. While Ulzheimer was bested 3-6, 3-6 in third singles and St. Joseph's took the fifth and sixth singles positions by default, Brown was able to secure the win for the Valiants in a tightly contested match in the fourth position, 5-7, 6-4 (10-6).
