BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College men's soccer team opened up conference play on Saturday, defeating St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) by a score of 4-0. The win improves Manhattanville to 2-4-1 on the season.
Eli Pardo (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) led the Valiants offensive effort on the day with a hat trick. The junior now leads Manhattanville with 8 points this year.
George Simpson (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) scored his first goal of the season, while
Kendall Davis (Atlanta, Georgia/Immaculata) and
Dan Lombardo (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) each contributed an assist.
The Valiants got on the board just under 12 minutes into the half, with Pardo scoring the only first-half tally courtesy of Davis' feed. Pardo would strike again two minutes following the halftime break, this time unassisted, to give Manhattanville the two score advantage.
Pardo wrapped up his dominant day in the 60th minute, finishing Lobardo's pass to complete the hat trick. Simpson would go on to score his tally in the 87th minute to close out the contest.
Luis Granados (Pasadena, Calif./St. Francis) posted the first clean sheet of his collegiate career, blanking the Bears through 90 minutes in net with a pair of saves. The sophomore netminder is now sporting a 0.99 goals-against average with 26 saves through four games played.
