FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Following a weekend of tournament action, the Manhattanville College women's tennis team returned to team play on Wednesday night against Skyline Conference foe Farmingdale State. The Valiants were bested by the Rams 8-1, dropping Manhattanville's record to 2-2 on the season and 1-1 in Skyline play.
The Valiants' lone win of the night came in first doubles, with
Renay Charley (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) and
Bea Pretnar (Mohegan Lake, N.Y./Soundview Prep) teaming up for an 8-7 (8-6) breaker victory over the Ram tandem of Anastasia Hoffman and Lien Collings. Over in second doubles,
Ella Brown (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) and
Kelsey Ulzheimer (Franklin Square, N.Y./H. Frank Carey) were defeated 0-8 by Rose Lettieri and Shari Jackson. Farmingdale would take the third doubles match by default.
For the first time all season, the Valiants were left without a singles win under their belts. Charley was defeated by Hoffman 3-6, 5-7 in the first slot, while Pretnar was unable to overcome Lettieri, 5-7, 2-6. Ulzheimer dropped a 0-6, 2-6 decision to Collings, and Brown fell 1-6, 2-6 to Jackson. The remaining two singles matches were awarded to Farmingdale by default.
