Manhattanville Men's Soccer Battles to Scoreless Draw in Season Debut

ALBANY, N.Y. – Taking the field for the first time in the new season, the Manhattanville College men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw against Russell Sage College on Saturday afternoon.

Despite not being able to find the back of the net in the 110 minutes of game time, there were some positive takeaways for the Valiants offense.

Manhattanville outshot Sage by a 23-7 margin on the day, with the Valiants firing 14 shots in the second half alone. The Crimson and White also managed three shots in second overtime period.

The offensive pressure came from all over the pitch, as 11 different Valiants registered a shot in the contest. Lucas Fernandez (Miami, Fla./Belen Jesuit) led the team with five total shots, while Eli Pardo (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) had four of his own, two going on goal. Michael Mezzina (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Morris Catholic), Kendall Davis (Atlanta, Georgia/Immaculata), Cody LaCava (New Egypt, N.J./New Egypt), and Jostyn Blanco (Norwalk, CT/Brien Mcmahon High School) all had a shot on net as the Valiants tested Gators' netminder Tyler Brennan all night long.

On the other side of the ball, Matthew Rodriguez (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes) collected a clean sheet in net for Manhattanville, playing the full 110 minutes and saving the lone shot on goal he faced.

Up Next:
The Valiants will return to action in a week when Manhattanville heads to Saratoga Springs to take on Skidmore College at 4:00 p.m.
