PURCHASE, N.Y.—The Manhattanville College women's soccer team made their return to action on Saturday, dropping a 1-0 match against Delaware Valley University.
The Aggies scored in the 60th minute off a shot by Jess Williamson, a tally that proved to be the only goal of the contest. A physical game throughout, the Valiants controlled most of the possession time, but could not find the back of the net on the sunny Saturday afternoon. Manhattanville held a 13-9 shot advantage in the match, including a 7-2 shot margin in their favor in the opening half.
Ashley Hayes (Springfield, Ore./Thurston) logged a team-high four shots in the contest, with three going on net. Dori Grasso (Shelton, Conn./St. Joseph) and Jennifer Xiong (Connelly Springs, N.C./East Burke) each also had a shot on goal. In all, nine different Valiants logged a shot on the day but were unable to get the equalizer past Delaware Valley's Olivia Sherwood, who made five saves en route to the shutout.
Alexa Pyatsky (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) logged three saves for Manhattanville in a full 90 minutes in goal.
