Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Haley Zemek, Assistant Director of Athletic Communcations

Women’s Soccer Bested by Mount Saint Vincent, 3-2

PURCHASE, N.Y. – In a rainy Saturday morning conference matchup, the Manhattanville College women's soccer team was defeated by the College of Mount Saint Vincent in a close 3-2 contest. This loss drops the Valiants to a 3-6-1 overall record with a 3-1-1 record in conference play.
 
Outshooting the Valiants 13-5 throughout the game, the Dolphins got out to a 2-1 lead at the half, before each team netted another over the final 45 minutes. 
 
After Mount Saint Vincent opened up scoring in the 11th minute with a goal from Emily McCarthy, assisted by Victoria Gamarra, Manhattanville responded with a goal in the 17th minute from Kelly Barrera (Port Chester, NY/Port Chester High School), her fifth of the season.
 
As play continued in the first half, Mount Saint Vincent took the lead back in the 40th minute with a goal by Alicia Rodriguez which kept the score at 2-1 going into the second. 
 
Mount Saint Vincent would score first coming right back from the break with another goal from Alicia Rodriguez in the 48th minute. It would be another 40 minutes before either team would make another big move. 
 
In trying to make a late run, Natalie Aracena (Bronx, N.Y./Riverdale Kingsbride Academy) scored the Valiants' second goal of the match with a penalty kick in the 88thminute. In the final two minutes, Manhattanville could not connect to tie it up and push the game into overtime. The final score would be 3-2, Mount Saint Vincent. 
 
Macey Girard (Branford, Conn./Branford) was in the net once again for Manhattanville, allowing three goals along with five saves in the full 90 minutes. Mount Saint Vincent's goalie, Javiera Sanchez, would also play the full match with two saves and two goals allowed. 
 
Corner kicks were even at two each for the Valiants and the Dolphins. 
 
Conference play continues on Tuesday evening when Manhattanville takes on St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn at 5 p.m. at GoValiants.com Field.
