PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's tennis team was in action for another Skyline Conference matchup on Tuesday afternoon, traveling the short distance up Anderson Hill Road to Purchase College. The Valiants were defeated by the Panthers 8-1, dropping Manhattanville to 0-5 overall on the year and 0-4 in conference play.
The lone point for the Valiants would come in the No. 6 Singles positions as
Ally Petricca (New Hyde Park, N.Y./New Hyde Park Memorial) notched her first collegiate victory. The grad student defeated Kali Secrest 6-1, 6-2 to earn the point for Manhattanville.
Unfortunately, Petricca's success was unable to be replicated in the rest of the match, although the Valiants did have strong showings in doubles action. In the top flight,
Bea Pretnar (Mohegan Lake, N.Y./Soundview Prep) and
Ella Brown (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) brought the Purchase duo of Nikita Kordzielewska and Sophia Cenatiempo to breaker, 7-7. Purchase was able to win the decision with a 7-2 victory in the tie breaker.
The story was similar in No. 3 Doubles, as Petricca and
Sara King (Schenectady, N.Y./Scotia-Glenville) were able to push their contest against Sierra Blanco and Novalie Nguyen to the brink, tied 7-7. The Valiant pair fell just short, dropping the 1-7 breaker. In No. 2 Doubles,
Victoria Szele (Cos Cob, Conn./Greenwich High School) and
Alana Anderson (Wellington, Fla./Palm Beach Central) were bested by Olivia Menchell and Elaina Coppola, 1-8.
Pretnar and Anderson would have the strongest showings in singles play outside of Petricca. Pretnar took the top flight position for the Valiants against Kordzielewska, falling 4-6, 3-6. Anderson, meanwhile, took to play in the No. 4 slot, falling 3-6, 3-6 to Blanco.
Szele was edged out by Cenatiempo in the No. 2 flight, 2-6, 0-6, while King fell in No. 5 Singles by a pair of 1-6 decisions against Coppola. Finally, Brown rounded out play in the No. 3 position, getting blanked by Menchell 0-6, 0-6.
