Women's Soccer Bested By Sarah Lawrence, 3-1

PURCHASE, N.Y. – A three-goal first half by the visiting Sarah Lawrence was too much for the Manhattanville College women's soccer team to overcome on Wednesday night, falling to the Gryphons 3-1. The loss drops Manhattanville to 5-6-1 on the season and 5-1-1 in Skyline Conference play.

Sarah Lawrence scored three goals in a six minute span to firmly take control on the night. Grace Carter opened up the scoring in the 20th minute on a ball that Macey Girard (Branford, Conn./Branford) was able to get a glove on, but the diving netminder was unable to corral the ball as it bounced into the net. A minute and a half later, it would be Viktoria Balbin doubling the Gryphons' lead. Cat Faville would then close out the scoring run with a goal in the 26th minute.

The Valiants were unable to capitalize on their offensive chances in the first half, as just one of the team's six shots was on target. The lone shot on goal came in the 43rd minute off the foot of Natalie Aracena (Bronx, N.Y./Riverdale Kingsbride Academy), but Bridgette Lee was able to stop it to preserve the 3-0 advantage into the half.

Manhattanville's attack would get just four shots off in the final 45 minutes, with two going on net. The Valiants would get on the board in the 75th minute as Morgan Passley (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) headed in a corner kick by Aracena. That would ultimately be all for Manhattanville on the night, as the team's only other shot on goal, an attempt by Kelly Barrera (Port Chester, NY/Port Chester High School) in the 82nd minute, would also be turned away by Lee.

Girard made one save in the loss, stopping the only Gryphon scoring chance in the second half. Aracena led the team with five total shot attempts.
