PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's soccer team scored four first half goals on Saturday to defeat Purchase College. The 4-0 win makes the Valiants 6-7-1 overall and 6-2-1 in Skyline Conference play. Manhattanville also remains perfect all-time against the Panthers, improving to 11-0-0.
Alexa Devlin (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex Regional) got the Valiants off to a hot start, connecting on a penalty kick opportunity 3:26 into the contest. The goal was the junior's first of the season.
The lead remained 1-0 until the 20
th minute at which point the Valiants scored three times in 10 minutes.
Izzy Rosa (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) opened up the run after receiving a pass from Mega Leser. Rosa took the shot from the top of the box and tucked the ball right under the crossbar to double the Valiant lead. The tally, Rosa's first of the season, was her first goal since the 2019 season.
Morgan Passley (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) then got in on the action in the 25
th minute, burying a one-timer shot for her seventh goal of her rookie campaign. Passley has been on fire as of late, scoring five goals over Manhattanville's last four games. With her score on Saturday, she ties
Kelly Barrera (Port Chester, NY/Port Chester High School) for the team lead on the season.
With the lead at 3-0, the Valiants added one last insurance goal in the 29
th minute as Rosa struck again with her second of the day. A series of quick passes by
Caitlin White (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) and Leser set Rosa up beautifully to quickly knock the shot in and extend Manhattanville's advantage to 4-0.
In all, the Valiants took 33 shots in the game, tying their second-highest shot total in a match this season. Seven different members of the Manhattanville roster ended with a shot on goal, led by three each off the cleats of Rosa and
Jennifer Xiong (Connelly Springs, N.C./East Burke).
Alessia Cioffi (Pawling, N.Y./Pawling) led all shooters with six shots.
On the other side of the field,
Macey Girard (Branford, Conn./Branford) made one save for her fifth clean sheet of the season. The rookie's goals against average now lowers to 1.64 on the year.
