Field Hockey Edged Out By Immaculata, 2-1

IMMACULATA, Pa. – Playing their first of two games this weekend, the Manhattanville College field hockey team was defeated on the road on Saturday, dropping a 2-1 game to Immaculata. The loss drops Manhattanville to 4-8 overall and 1-3 in Atlantic East play.

All three goals came as part of a wild third quarter, with the Valiants striking first. In the 37th minute, Felicity Williams (Glen Falls, N.Y./Glen Falls) was able to find Megan Keaveney (Clarkstown, N.Y./Clarkstown South) open as one senior assisted the other for the game's first score. The goal was Keaveney's third of the season, while Williams notched her third assist of the year.

The Valiant goal seemed to open the floodgates for scoring as the lead would be shortlived with the Mighty Macs quickly tying the game before taking the lead. A minute after Keaveney broke the scoreless tie, Maddy Edwards would notch the tying goal for the home team shortly before Gabrielle O'Brien put Immaculata ahead. From there, the game went back to a defensive battle with both teams being held scoreless for the remainder of play.

Despite the loss, it was a strong outing by Florence Harrison (Melbourne, Australia/Balwyn High School) in net. The sophomore played all 60 minutes, making seven saves. Harrison made four stops in the second half to hold the Mighty Macs to just the two goals. Keaveney also got involved in the defensive play, recording her first career defensive save.

As a team, the Valiants were held to just six shots, though five were on net. Abbey Playle (Reading, England/Leigh High School) led the way with three total shots, two on goal, while Amaya Washam-Brown (New Castle, Del./Delcastle Technical) and Alyssa Monahan (East Fishkill, NY/John Jay High School) also fired a ball on cage.

Immaculata held a 6-3 penalty corner advantage.
