Field Hockey Celebrates Senior Day Against Roger Williams

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College field hockey team celebrated Senior Day on Sunday afternoon, honoring the Class of 2023 ahead of their tilt with Roger Williams. The visiting Hawks would play spoiler on the day, defeating the Valiants by a final of 3-1. With the loss, Manhattanville falls to 4-9 entering the final stretch of the regular season.

Prior to the opening whistle, the Valiants celebrated their four seniors. Megan Keaveney (Clarkstown, N.Y./Clarkstown South), Ava Panzer (Pawling, N.Y./Pawling), Abbey Playle (Reading, England/Leigh High School) and Felicity Williams (Glen Falls, N.Y./Glen Falls) were each honored in the pregame ceremony in recognition of heir contributions to the program.

The first quarter, the Hawks opened up the scoring as Brooklyn Cenatiempo scored in the seventh minute. The Roger Williams forward dove to get a piece of her stick on a cross by Kelly Doherty, tipping the ball into the cage past Manhattanville's Cat Morgan (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay Senior).

The 1-0 lead carried into the second quarter before the Valiants evened the score in the 21st minute. Alyssa Monahan (East Fishkill, NY/John Jay High School) put Manhattanville on the board with her third goal of the year off Panzer's assist.

Unfortunately, the Valiants would not get another shot on cage the remainder of the contest as a sustained Hawks attack eventually broke through Manhattanville's defense. In the third quarter, Morgan Foley put Roger Williams back ahead off Ella Waryas' pass. Elizabeth Duquette would add an insurance tally off a penalty corner in the 55th minute as the Valiants would log just one shot in the second half.

The Hawks outshot the Valiants 23-3 in the game. Monahan accounted for two of the home team's shots, while Playle recorded the third.

In net, Morgan made seven saves for the Valiants. The junior keeper has made 17 saves across her last two appearances in the cage.

The Hawks drew 16 penalty corners compared to seven by the Valiants. Manhattanville earned six of their corners in the fourth quarter.
