PURCHASE, N.Y. – Playing their third match of the week, the Manhattanville College women's tennis team was defeated by Baruch College 7-2 on Sunday afternoon. The loss knocks the Valiants down to 0-7 on the season.
Manhattanville earned their two points in singles play with a pair of tiebreaker wins. In the No. 4 position,
Alana Anderson (Wellington, Fla./Palm Beach Central) took the first set against Stephanie Tapia before falling in the second, 2-6. Anderson would come back to take the third set in breaker, 10-4.
Ally Petricca (New Hyde Park, N.Y./New Hyde Park Memorial) would also win her singles draw in three sets, playing in the No. 6 flight. The grad student took the opening set 6-3 over Andrea Bossio before dropping a tight 6-7 set two. Petricca would win set three 10-4 as well.
Baruch took all three doubles draws, with Petricca and Anderson putting up the strongest fight in the No. 3 doubles draw. The duo fell 6-8 to Tapia and Alejandra Cardenas.
Bea Pretnar (Mohegan Lake, N.Y./Soundview Prep) and
Ella Brown (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) were shutout 8-0 by Ava DeGuzman and Esther Benjamin in No. 1 Doubles, while
Victoria Szele (Cos Cob, Conn./Greenwich High School) and
Sara King (Schenectady, N.Y./Scotia-Glenville) were defeated by Regina Kelley and Erica Sheludenko, 2-8.
Pretnar took to the court in the No. 1 position for singles against Guzman, falling 1-6, 0-6. Szele fell by an identical score to Kelley in the No. 2 flight. Brown was defeated 1-6, 1-6 by Sheludenko in the No. 3 flight, while King was bested in No. 5 Singles by Cardenas, 0-6, 2-6.
