PURCHASE, N.Y. – As the fall season comes to a close, the Manhattanville College men's tennis team fell to New Jersey City University on Saturday afternoon, 9-0. With the loss, the Valiants finish the season 0-2.
The No. 3 doubles position was the first match to conclude, as the team of
Max Moeller (Crestwood, N.Y./Iona Prep) and
Dylan Crowley (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) were defeated by Joaquin Pluis and Pedro Caro-Accino Roca, 2-8.
Luis Gonzalez (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) and
Derwin Guzman (Harlem, N.Y./Frederick Douglass Academy) had the strongest showing at No. 2 doubles but fell to Ryan Weiss and Jordi Julia, 4-8. No. 1 doubles finished last where
James Hourihan (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) and
Weston Goodwin (Freeport, Maine/Freeport) were bested by Nico Teynie and Alejandro Ley, 3-8.
For singles, Gonzalez fell to Ley at the No. 2 position, 0-6, 3-6. Hourihan in the No. 1 slot was defeated by Teynie, 3-6, 3-6. Goodwin put up the best fight for No. 3 singles as he lost to Weiss 2-6, 7-6, and then 4-10 in the tiebreaker.
Shiel Loganadan (New York, N.Y./Mary McDowell Friends) competed in the No. 4 position and fell to Julia 1-6, 4-6.
Vincent Liberatore (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) was swept 0-6, 0-6 by Caro-Accino Roca in the No. 6 slot. Crowley played in the final match and lost 0-6, 1-6 to Pluis in the No. 5 singles position.
The Valiants conclude their fall season and return for more action in the springtime.
