Field Hockey Drops Season Finale at Gwynedd Mercy; Secures No. 6 Seed in Conference Tournament

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -  The Manhattanville College field hockey team concluded their regular season on Tuesday evening, dropping a 6-0 contest to Gwynedd Mercy University. The Valiants will finish the regular season with a 4-11 overall record and 1-5 in Atlantic East Conference play. Despite the loss, the Valiants secure the No. 6 seed for the Atlantic East Conference Championship and will play at the third-seeded team in the tournament's first round on Saturday. 
 
Manhattanville was limited to two shots in the contest with both attempts being on target. Megan Keaveney (Clarkstown, N.Y./Clarkstown South) recorded each, one in the 39th minute and one in the 51st minute. 
 
Gwynedd Mercy got on the board seven minutes into the match with a rebound goal from Cheyenne Avellino, assisted by Kaci Murray. Amber Sims would score in the 19th minute and 24th minute to put the Griffins up 3-0 going into the half. 
 
In the third period, Caitlin Thornton would score in the 35th and 41st minute. After a back and forth last 15 minutes of the match, Thornton would score again in the 57th minute to end the contest with a hat trick and a Gwynedd Mercy victory, 6-0. 
 
Florence Harrison (Melbourne, Australia/Balwyn High School) played 44 minutes in the cage for Manhattanville and tallied four saves, Lidia Vasquez-Sinisi (Selden, N.Y./Newfield H.S.) played the final 16 minutes and tallied one save. Gwynedd Mercy's goalkeeper, Morgan Lawless, played the full 60 minutes and tallied two saves. 
 
The Griffins held a 12-0 advantage in penalty corners. 

The Valiants' first round opponent will be determined tomorrow night following the results of Immaculata at St. Mary's. If Immaculata wins, the Mighty Macs will secure the No. 3 seed and host the Valiants. If Immaculata loses tomorrow and surrenders two or more goals, the No. 3 seed will belong to Marywood, setting up a rematch between the Valiants and the Pacers.
