PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's soccer team return to action on Friday afternoon, earning a 4-0 win over skyline Conference rival Maritime College. The victory moves the Valiants' record on the season to 5-6-1 overall and will remain in second place in the conference standings with a 5-1-1 mark in Skyline play.
A career-high six point game by
Kelly Barrera (Port Chester, NY/Port Chester High School) led the way for Manhattanville, as the sophomore was involved in all four of the Valiant scores. After netting the first two goals of the day herself, she would collect a pair of assists on
Morgan Passley's (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) two goals to close out the contest. The rookie Passley brings her season-goal total to five, the second-most on the team.
In the 14
th minute, Barerra began her stellar effort, converting on a breakaway opportunity and shooting the ball past Maritime keeper Emily Commodore to the left side to put the home squad up 1-0.
The one-goal advantage would carry into halftime before the Valiants would hang three over the final 45 minutes. Barrera opened up the second-half scoring in the 51
st minute, scoring her second unassisted goal of the day to double Manhattanville's lead to 2-0. The score held there for 30 minutes before Passley notched her first of the day in minute 81, receiving a pass from Barrera right in front of the net to fire a shot to the left side of the goal. Two and a half minutes later, Passley added one last insurance tally, collecting a throw-in from Barrera before booting the ball towards goal to put the Valiants up 4-0 with six and a half minutes remaining.
In all, Manhattanville outshot Maritime 19-2, with eight of Manhattanville's shots going on goal. Passley had a team-high three shots on net, while
Natalie Aracena (Bronx, N.Y./Riverdale Kingsbride Academy) had five shot attempts in the game.
While the Privateers were limited to just the two shots, both shots were on net. A shot in each half tested
Macey Girard (Branford, Conn./Branford) in net, but the rookie keeper successfully turned both away for her second-consecutive shutout. Girard has now totaled four clean sheets on the season and has lowered her goals-against average down to 1.67.
The Valiants earned a season-high 11 corner kicks, while the Privateers had none. It was the second time this season a Manhattanville opponent had no corner opportunities, the first since Sept. 18's win over Yeshiva.
