Men’s Soccer Plays To Scoreless Draw on Senior Day

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Manhattanville College men's soccer celebrated its senior class on Saturday, Oct. 8 as they welcomed the St. Joseph's University-Long Island Golden Eagles to GoValiants.com Field for a 1 p.m. contest. After 90 minutes of back and forth, the Valiants battled to a 0-0 draw. With the tie, the Valiants now sit at an overall record of 7-3-2 with a conference record of 5-0-1.

Prior to kickoff, a ceremony was held to honor the successes and contributions of each graduating member of the team.

Once the festivities concluded, defense reigned supreme. Luis Granados (Pasadena, Calif./St. Francis) was set in goal for the Valiants and put up five saves, while the Golden Eagles' Josh Lehr tallied six.

Manhattanville held advantages in shots, 19-5, and corner kicks, 12-0, throughout the match. The defensive effort was equally as strong for the Skyline Conference competitors, even with the action occuring primarily on their side of the field.

Mezzina led the team with five shots, and one on goal as the Valiants were held scoreless for the first time in a span of five contests. The senior had perhaps the best chance of the day to put a tally on the board, drawing a penalty kick opportunity with just over a minute remaining in the contest. Mezzina's initial attempt was saved by Lehr before his follow-up attempt rolled left of the net, allowing the remainder of the clock to roll for the draw.

The Manhattanville College men's soccer team will be back in action at home on Tuesday, Oct. 11 against Farmingdale State College.
