Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y. – Returning to the courts for the first time since Sept. 21, the Manhattanville College women's tennis team was defeated by Skyline Conference rival Farmingdale State on Saturday afternoon, 9-0. The loss drops the Valiants to 0-4 overall on the season and 0-3 in Skyline play.
The Rams took all three doubles contests to open up the day.
Bea Pretnar (Mohegan Lake, N.Y./Soundview Prep) and
Ella Brown (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) were defeated in No. 1 Doubles by Anastasia Hoffman and Amanda Jones, 2-8.
Victoria Szele (Cos Cob, Conn./Greenwich High School) and
Alana Anderson (Wellington, Fla./Palm Beach Central) teamed up for the Valiants for the No. 2 flight, falling 1-8 to Lien Collings and Mackenzie Gisler. In the No. 3 draw,
Sara King (Schenectady, N.Y./Scotia-Glenville) and
Ally Petricca (New Hyde Park, N.Y./New Hyde Park Memorial) faced an identical result, being bested by Mia Murrell and Susana Pariona, 1-8.
Farmingdale continued to roll into singles play by sweeping the six draws. Petricca had one of the best performances for the Valiants in her tennis debut, putting up a hard-fought effort in a 4-6, 1-6 loss to Mikayla DeMaria in the No. 6 position. In No. 3 Singles, Brown would drop a 3-6, 2-6 decision to Jones.
Pretnar took the top flight for the Valiants, falling to Hoffman 3-6, 0-6 in the No. 1 position. Szele was bested by Collins 2-6, 1-6 in the No. 2 draw, while King fell 1-6, 2-6 to Heather McGullam in No. 5 Singles. Finally, Anderson dropped her first set to Gisler 3-6 in the No. 4 flight before retiring due to injury down 1-0 in set two.
