Women's Basketball Wraps Up Perfect Homestand With 70-38 Win Over Saint Joseph's-Brooklyn

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's basketball team opened up Skyline Conference play on Saturday afternoon, with the Valiants knocking off Saint Joseph's-Brooklyn 70-38. Manhattanville improves to 3-0 on the season following the victory.

The Valiants received 31 combined points from the day's leading scorers of Jamison Agostino (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) and Julianna Kascic (North Bergen, N.J./Paramus Catholic). The junior Agostino scored 16 and did most of her damage from beyond the arc with four three pointers. Kascic, meanwhile scored a career-high 15 on a 6-of-10 performance from the field while adding three free throws.

Kristen Scrobola (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas High School) was the Valiants' leading rebounder in the contest, collecting 10 boards. The total matched a career-best for the junior, while her four offensive rebounds led Manhattanville. Livi Correia (North Attleboro, Mass./Worcester Academy) collected seven rebounds while Niyona Smith (Baltimore, MD/Concordia Prep) added six. Amanda Orlando (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) finished just behind Scrobola under the offensive glass with three offensive boards.

In addition to her presence under the net in the rebound battle, Correia would earn a team-high five assists, setting up multiple Manhattanville scores. Smith would add three helpers of her own along with a pair of blocks.

The Bears came out of the gates firing as Kristen Donovan and Grace Kennedy connected from deep on Saint Joseph's first two shots. Donovan would hit another three with 4:17 left in the period, putting the Bears ahead 13-6. That would prove to be the Bears' largest lead of the day, as the Valiants went on a 10-0 run to erased the deficit and take their first lead of the contest. Botch Kascic and Gabby Tucker (Port Chester, N.Y./Blind Brook) would convert old-fashioned three-point plays to fuel the run, putting the Valiants ahead 16-13. The Bears would end the quarter with Ayomide Adeoye going 1-for-2 on her free throws to head into the second with Manhattanville up by two.

After a scoreless minute and a half to begin the quarter, the Bears pulled back even on Emma Kiley's layup. Tied 16-16, a pair of Kascic layups sandwiched an Agostino three ball to put the Valiants ahead with a lead they protected the remainder of the day. Saint Joseph's scored just seven points to close out the half, allowing the Valiant lead to reach double figures as Correia's last second layup closed out the second with a 31-21 Manhattanville lead.

The lead would hover around 10 to begin the third quarter before a 12-2 run doubled the Valiant advantage entering the final minute of the frame. Agostino accounted for seven of the Manhattanville points during the run while both her and Angela Downey (Lyndhurst, N.J./Lyndhurst) hit a shot from beyond the arc. Kiley and Kascic traded baskets as the horn sounded with the Valiants up 50-30.

Manhattanville had their best shooting quarter in the fourth, connecting on 42 percent of their shots from the field. Conversely, it was the Bears' coldest frame as Saint Joseph's went just 1-for-12 in the final 10 minutes. The shooting discrepancy allowed the Valiants to go on a 13-0 run over a 3:08 period, leading 66-35. With the Bears' remaining points all coming from the free throw line, the Valiants were able to close things out with the 32-point win.
