Men's Basketball Hits 17 Three Pointers in 87-59 Win Over St. Joseph's (Brooklyn)

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College men's basketball team carried their hot stretch from last month into February, defeating St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) on Tuesday night by a final of 87-59. The 28 point win is the Valiants' second-highest victory margin of the season, improving the team's record to 9-7 overall and 6-3 in the Skyline Conference.

It was a season-high night for much of the offense as four reached double-figures offensively in the win to set new campaign bests. Jake Dunn (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) led the way with 20 points, as the senior guard had his best shooting night of the year, hitting 8-of-12 shots from the field including four from beyond the arc. Mike Granda (Monroe Township, N.J./St. Joseph) also had a season-best effort with 18 points, going a perfect 6-for-6 on three pointers. Chris Maestre (Bronx, N.Y./Mount Saint Michael Academy) scored 12 while Ryan Giordano (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South) accounted for 10, combining to go 9-for-10 of shot attempts.

It was raining threes in Brooklyn, as not only did the Valiants shoot a season high 62 percent from the field but almost matched that mark exclusively from deep. Manhattanville went 17-for-28 on three point attempts, posting a .607 clip. It was the best shooting percentage from beyond the arc that the Valiants have had since 2014.

On the boards, it was Jackson Leech (Chicago, Ill./Von Steuben) leading the way, collecting seven rebounds. Giordano ended the night with five, while Dunn contributed four.

With the deep ball working, it did not take long for the Valiants to gain separation from the Bears. Manhattanville sank five shots from deep to pull ahead 21-8 seven minutes into the opening half. The lead would swell up to as high as 18 before the Bears went on a mini 7-0 run to cut Manhattanville's advantage down to 32-21. But, as was the story of the night, Granda connected on a three pointer to put the Vals back up by 14 where the lead would hover around for most of the final six minutes of the half.

Up 44-30 to begin the second, the Valiants refused to let up on the gas as Dunn and Granda hit a pair of threes to represent Manhattanville's first baskets of the half. The lead would never fall below 18 points as the Bears had no response to Manhattanville's incredible shooting on the night. The lead climbed to 35 with 1:33 to play with the score 87-52 before St. Joseph's scored the final seven points of the contest.
