Women's Basketball Closes Out Road Slate With Win Over Old Westbury

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's basketball team completed a perfect 3-0 week with a 66-30 win against SUNY Old Westbury on Friday night. The win improves the Valiants' record on the year to 16-6 and the team's conference mark to 12-5.

It was a dual-leading performance by Spencer Shore (Boca Raton, Fla./West Boca Raton) and Faith Johnson-Desilvia (Riverhead, N.Y./Riverhead) on the offensive end, with the duo combining for 30 points. Shore shot 50 percent from the field on the night en route to 15 points, her highest total since her 24 point outing against St. Joseph's (Long Island) on Jan. 18.The Boca Raton native led the Valiants with a trio of three pointers. Johnson-Desilvia, meanwhile, continues to be red-hot with double figures in five of Manhattanville's last six. The senior added 15 points of her own while dishing out a team-high five assists.

The Crimson and White dominated the glass with 52 rebounds to Old Westbury's 33. Niyona Smith (Towson, MD/Concordia Prep) led the effort with eight, three coming offensively. Ali Mikaele (Silver Spring, Md./St. Andrew's Episcopal School) and Kristen Scrobola (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas High School) both ended the night with seven caroms, while Claudia Valentin (Cambridge, Mass./Cambridge Rindge & Latin School) added six.

The Valiants used a 7-0 run across two minutes in the first to take an early 9-5 advantage. Old Westbury retook the lead with six unanswered points of their own before a 7-1 Valiant run closed out a back-and-forth opening 10 minutes with Manhattanville on top, 16-12.

It was in the second quarter where the Valiants took over. After Cherish Francis gave the Panthers a one-point lead with a layup, Manhattanville scored 17 straight points to close out the half. The run was piloted by eight points from Jamison Agostino (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) as the Vals went 6-of-11 to wrap up the second quarter up 36-20.

Manhattanville picked up right where they left off to begin the third, scoring the first 11 points of the half over the first two and a half minutes to pull ahead 47-20. While the Panthers score eight of the last 13 points of the quarter, the 24 point advantage for the Valiants had the game out of reach with the final ten minutes to play.

The Valiants kept the foot on the gas, growing their lead to as high as 36. Manhattanville outscored Old Westbury 14-2 over the final 10 minutes to earn the regular season series split.
