BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – A quartet of double-figure scorers led the Manhattanville College men's basketball team to a 14 point win at Sarah Lawrence on Saturday afternoon. The 76-62 win makes it five in a row for the Valiants, who improved to 12-7 overall and 9-3 in Skyline Conference play.
Petey Galgano (New Rochelle, N.Y./Wilbraham & Monson Academy (Mass.)) had a team-high 16 points and eight rebounds to lead the Valiants on both sides of the court. The senior guard was especially effective from deep, going 4-for-5 on three point attempts.
Mike Granda (Monroe Township, N.J./St. Joseph) scored 12, all coming on his four three pointers.
Ryan Giordano (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South) and
Tommy Lotito (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's) wrapped up the top offensive performers with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Despite being outrebounded 42-29, the Valiants were able to pick up the win with a .476 shooting effort. Giordano finished behind Galgano on the day in the caroms with five, while
Jake Dunn (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) and
Connor Yetman (Sydney, Australia/The Scots College (H.S.)) hauled in three apiece.
Granda hit a three pointer to open up the contest and the Valiants would never look back. In fact, the first three shots Manhattanville hit on the day were from beyond the arc as the Crimson and White jumped out to a 9-4 lead two and a half minutes in. A Galgano three began a string of 10 unanswered points for the Valiants to go ahead by 12 with Manhattanville holding a double-digit lead up until 5:30 left in the half. After falling behind by 15, the Gryphons were able to pull back to within four with 3:37 to play. The teams traded baskets over the final few minutes to head into the half with Manhattanville up 38-33.
Even with most of their lead evaporating to end the first, the Valiants jumped back up by 10 to open up the second half. Sarah Lawrence would not get closer than six for the remainder of the day. Manhattanville went on a 14-4 run to jump ahead 66-50 with 10:41 to go. The lead would swell up to 19 in the final four minutes as Manhattanville closed out the road game.
