Stanwood & Cox Combine for Six Goals as Women's Hockey Rolls Past Neumann

ASTON, Pa. – A pair of hat tricks by Charlotte Stanwood (West Vancouver, B.C./Penticton Secondary) and Gabrielle Cox (Niverville, NY/Ichabod Crane High School) alongside a complete game shutout by Jewells Austin (Bethlehem, CT/Nonnewaug High School) in net led to the Manhattanville College women's hockey team closing out the regular season with a 9-0 win at Neumann on Saturday. The Valiants improve to 14-8-1 overall and 14-5-0 in UCHC play with the win as the UCHC Conference Tournament looms next week.

The Valiants lit the lamp three times in each period to secure the win, outscoring the Knights by a 14-1 margin across the two game series. Cox would get started on her three goal afternoon 5:33 into the first, scoring off assists from Taylor Ham (Saugerties, N.Y./Millbrook School) and Grace Felicio (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional). Just under two minutes later, Ciara Dauer (Winchester, MA/Worcester Academy) would score for the Crimson and White on a shot set up by Ana Tittmann (Salisbury, Conn./Housatonic Valley Regional) and Morgan Miller (St. Augustine, Fla./Gilmour Academy). Stanwood closed out the opening frame with her first of the day, finishing a feed from Kerry Carr (New Hartford, N.Y./Millbrook School) at 17:53 to put the Valiants up by three entering the second period.

It took a little time for Manhattanville to replicate their first period efforts as the Valiants were held in check until 10:48 into the second. The Valiants were awarded their first power play opportunity of the game and wasted little time capitalizing, as Cox received a pass from Holly Meredith (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Vermont Academy) and buried the team's first shot with the player advantage. After her assist in the first, Carr opted to get into the scoring column herself in the second off a pass from Fjolla Berisha (Mahopac, N.Y./Brewster Lady Bulldogs (NEGHL)) at 12:23. The Valiants ended the second the same way they did the first, with a Stanwood goal. The Valiants had open ice again following a roughing minor, which allowed Stanwood to get set up by Ham and Meredith with her second of the day and giving the Valiants a 6-0 advantage.

The sophomore Stanwood quickly finished off her hat trick 1:13 into the third as Carr and Laney Nash (Edmonds, Wash./Washington Wild (PNAHA)) helped set up the British Columbia native's fourth of the season. Cox's hatty followed in suit at 11:56 with Ham earning her third assist of the affair and Ciara Dauer (Winchester, MA/Worcester Academy) earning the seconday helper. A day removed from her own three goal effort, Miller closed out the day with a power play goal assisted by Carr and Tia Martignetti (Wilmington, Mass./Boston Junior Eagles (EHF)).

Austin got the start in net for the Valiants, her first appearance since Jan. 15. The rookie netminder posted her first career shutout with 19 saves, and concludes her first regular season with a 1.13 goals-against average and a .938 save percentage.

Manhattanville will enter the UCHC Tournament next week as the No. 3 seed and will host the No. 6 seed in Wednesday's Quarterfinal opener. Game time and tournament bracket will be announced later this weekend.
