Men's Tennis Drops 5-4 Decision Against Emerson

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Manhattanville College men's tennis team was back in action on Thursday morning, dropping a tight contest with Emerson down in Florida. The 5-4 loss drops Manhattanville to 1-3 in the 2021-22 campaign.

The Valiants were able to secure one of the three points up for grabs in the doubles flights, as the duo of Dylan Crowley (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) and Max Moeller (Crestwood, N.Y./Iona Prep) earned an 8-6 win over Daniel Kennedy and Cooper Sherman in the third position. Nick Schlapak (Dover, N.H./Dover) and Ryan Rosenberg () were defeated by the duo of Bass Lin and Ryu Watanabe in No. 1 doubles, 8-2, while James Hourihan (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) and Weston Goodwin (Freeport, ME/Freeport High School) were bested in the second flight 8-3 by Emerson's Maximo Lawlor and Pete Sevikul.

While the Valiants were able to split the six singles matches, the two doubles losses were just enough to earn the win for Emerson on the day. Hourihan was victorious in a thriller in the first position. After dropping the first set to Lin 6-2, the sophomore picked up a 6-3 win in the second set before outlasting Lin 10-9 in the deciding set. Over in No. 5 singles, Goodwin bested Daniel Kennedy 6-1, 6-1, while Crowley was victorious in his competition in the sixth flight against Cooper Sherman, 6-1, 6-0.

Rosenberg fell to Lawlor in No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-0. In the third flight, Gonzalez was on the short end of a 6-0, 6-1 decision against Watanabe. Emerson was able to secure the match win as a result of No. 4 singles which saw Sevikul defeat Schlapak 6-2, 6-1.
