Keenan Scores 100th Career Goal in Loss Against Lycoming

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Lara Keenan (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central) scored six goals, including the 100th of her career, but the offensive output just was not enough for the Manhattanville College women's lacrosse team on Friday night, falling to Lycoming by a final of 19-14. The Valiants drop to 1-4 on the season with the loss.

Keenan became the latest member of the women's lacrosse century club with 9:52 left in the first half, scoring her third of the night off a pass from Brialee Logue (Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet). The senior attacker became just the 12th player in program history to reach the 100 career goal mark, and is the first since Jenna Nance joined the illustrious grouping in 2018.

Keenan has been on a roll since returning from injury to begin her season earlier this week, scoring ten goals in the two games she has played. She has leaped up into second on the team in scoring, trailing only Kerry Carr (New Hartford, N.Y./Millbrook School) in goals scored this season.

Despite the strong display by Keenan and the rest of the Valiant attack, Manhattanville just was not able to catch Lycoming after the Warriors took the lead in the second quarter. The Valiants pulled within one on four separate occasions, but everything Lycoming felt the pressure, the guests regained breathing room with a score before finally pulling away late in the fourth quarter.

Keenan was joined by Maura Kelly (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) and Carr with multiple goals on the night, all three scoring three or more. The junior Kelly scored a season0high four goals, while Carr earned her second hat trick in as many games. Ally Petricca (New Hyde Park, N.Y./New Hyde Park Memorial) also scored her fourth goal of the season, with all of her tallies coming in the last three games.
Petricca and Carr scored just six seconds apart a minute into the first to put the host Valiants on top early. But, setting the tone of the game to come, the lead evaporated almost instantaneously. Lycoming scored two goals of their own in the ensuing 38 seconds to tie the game up at 2-2. Carr would put Manhattanville back ahead with 10 minutes to go in the quarter, but the Warriors scored three straight, two courtesy of Katie Maguire to take their first lead of the night. Keenan would get her night started with 5:25 remaining in the first, scoring the first of her six tallies to pull the Valiants back to within a goal.

Keenan struck again in the second, scoring two minutes in on a free position shot to tie the game up at 5-5. Erika Boyer scored two straight goals for Lycoming, giving the Warriors a lead they held the rest of the way through no lack of trying by Manhattanville. Keenan would score her 100th goal a minute later before Lycoming pulled back up by two with 7:45 left. Carr scored off a Keenan assist with 3:26 to go before Maguire reclaimed the two goal advantage in the final seconds of the half, 9-7.

The teams continued to trade goals through the start of the third, as Kelly scored twice only for the Warriors to respond on the other end of the field. Lycoming would end the quarter on a 4-1 run, with Keenan's fourth of the night being the inky Manhattanville score of the last eight minutes of the third as Lycoming built out a 14-10 advantage to enter the final 15.

Kelly added two more goals while Keenan's fifth goal set up by Caity Bianchi (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) gave Manhattanville three goals in the first eight minutes of the quarter, but once again the Warriors had a response for every Manhattanville tally. Kailey Stocker scored her fifth before Maguire netted her eighth of the night with 4:50 to go to give the Warriors insurance tallies to close out the game before Keenan wrapped up her historic night with her sixth score of the game and the 103rd of her career.

Britney Sirota (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) led the Valiants with four ground balls along with her nine saves in net. Felicity Williams (Glen Falls, N.Y./Glen Falls) scooped up three grounders alongside Carr and Kelly. Williams and Kelly were also the team's leader in caused turnovers alongside Mackenzie Orf with five. Keenan also led the team with six draw controls.
