Women's Lacrosse Falls In Non-Conference Tilt at Bryn Mawr

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – It was a tightly contested game in Pennsylvania on Wednesday, but a five goal quarter by host Bryn Mawr was enough to edge out the Manhattanville College women's lacrosse team, 11-7. The loss drops the Valiants' record on the year to 1-5.

Manhattanville had six different goal scorers in the contest. Kerry Carr (New Hartford, N.Y./Millbrook School) was the only Valiant to end the night with multiple points, scoring twice on four shots. The Valiants' leading goal scorer now has 13 on the season.

Ally Petricca (New Hyde Park, N.Y./New Hyde Park Memorial) scored 54 seconds into the contest to give the Valiants an early advantage. After the Owls netted two goals to claim their first lead of the evening, Marisa D'Angelo (Wantagh, N.Y./MacArthur) scored her eighth goal of the season with 2:07 left in the opening quarter to tie the game back up at 2-2. While it appeared that would be the score to enter the second quarter, the Owls were able to add one more tally with 25 seconds to go on Sierra Hamilton's shot, putting Bryn Mawr up 3-2 through the opening 15 minutes.

The Owls would protect their one goal lead for most of the second quarter before Caity Bianchi (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) and Maura Kelly (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) scored just four seconds apart with 5:25 remaining in the half. For Bianchi, the tying goal was her seventh of the season, while Kelly's ninth put the Valiants ahead once again. Isabel Shin scored for the Owls in the final minute to send both teams into the intermission tied at 4-4.

Manhattanville opened up the second half with the first two goals, as Lara Keenan (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central) scored her 11th of the year at 11:56 while Carr's first of the game followed 57 seconds later. Bryn Mawr once again had a response ready to go, scoring twice before the quarter came to an end to send the game into the fourth even at 6-6.
After Nina Houri gave the Owls their first lead since the first quarter 54 seconds into the final stanza, Carr's second of the game and 13th of the year once again tied the game with 13:31 to go. Entering the final 13 minutes of the game, the Bryn Mawr attack found a second win, scoring four unanswered to close out the game, finally pulling away from the Valiants.

Britney Sirota (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) made seven saves for Manhattanville in a full 60 minutes of work in net. The junior goalie finished the day with three ground balls, tying with Keenan for the team lead. Speaking of Keenan, in addition to leading the Valiants with six draw controls, she was one of three Valiants with two caused turnovers. The senior's total was matched by Alyssa Monahan (East Fishkill, NY/John Jay High School) and Felicity Williams (Glen Falls, N.Y./Glen Falls) to lead the effort on the day.
