Women's Lacrosse Drop Conference Opener Against Farmingdale

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - Women's lacrosse opened up the 2022 Skyline Conference campaign on Saturday, dropping a contest against Farmingdale State College. With five goals scored just in the first quarter, the Valiants kept the lead until the Rams came back scoring eight goals in the final period, earning a 15-10 Farmingdale win. The Valiants fall to 1-6 on the year with the loss.

Manhattanville had seven different goal scorers in the game, including the first career goal by Abbey Playle (Reading, England/Leigh High School). Kerry Carr (New Hartford, N.Y./Millbrook School) picked up three points with an assist and scoring two goals on three shots, while Brialee Logue (Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) also collected three points on one goal and two assists. Lara Keenan (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central) added two goals to bring her season total to 13 in just four games played this year.

Playle opened up the scoring for the Valiants six minutes into the first quarter with her first goal of her college lacrosse career. The Rams were quick to respond, scoring less than a minute later to even the field in the first 10 minutes of the quarter. Logue and Carr netted the next two goals to give the Valiants the lead for the second time in the game. Farmingdale scored one more before Marisa D'Angelo (Wantagh, N.Y./MacArthur) and Keenan scored their firsts of the day and put the Valiants ahead with three goals.

After scoring five in the first, a scoreless second quarter for the Valiants gave room for the Rams to even out the score, putting three goals behind Britney Sirota (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) in net to make it 5-5 going into the second half.

A back-and forth third quarter saw five goals scored by five different players as the field opened up as a result of four cards being issued out. Kerry Carr (New Hartford, N.Y./Millbrook School) scored her second of the day with a player advantage with 14:48 remaining in the third. Farmingdale responded shorthanded before D'Angelo tallied her second of the game with Manhattanville down a player to make it 7-6. The Rams once again evened up the game, this time with the player advantage in their favor, before Kelly closed the quarter scoring once again on a player advantage with nine seconds to go.

Down to the final 15 to play, the Farmingdale attack erupted for eight goals in the fourth quarter. It wasn't until the Rams scored six straight goals that Caity Bianchi (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) was able to find the back of the net for the Valiants and shorten the five-goal down to 13-9.. Not long after the attempt to make a comeback the Rams sealed their lead with the addition of two goals by Athena Vogiatzis in the last five minutes of the game, her fourth and fifth of the contest.. Keenan would score one more before the final whistle, her second of the day, but the Rams put enough distance between the two teams to secure the win.

Sirota played a full 60 minutes, making 14 total saves. The junior goalie finished the game with three ground balls, bringing her total to 27 for the 2022 season. Kerry Carr (New Hartford, N.Y./Millbrook School) lead the team in ground balls (five) and caused turnovers (four).
