PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College men's tennis team earned its first win of the spring on Sunday, narrowly defeating Baruch, 5-4. The win will make the Valiants 2-4 overall in the 2021-22 campaign.
A pair of doubles wins for the Valiants proved to be the difference maker in the match as Manhattanville earned two of the possible three points in doubles. The duo of
Weston Goodwin (Freeport, ME/Freeport High School) and
Dylan Crowley (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) were able to make quick work in No. 3 Doubles, defeating Philip Dwan and Piers Seidman 8-1. After Jams Hourihan and
Nick Schlapak (Dover, N.H./Dover) were bested in the first flight by Christopher Tham and Abhinav Srivastava, 8-5, the third point would be decided in No. 2 doubles.
Ryan Rosenberg () and
Luis Gonzalez (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) squared off with Jim Bauer and Hudson Kaylie in a tight matchup, but the Valiants emerged victorious, 8-6.
The second point proved to be crucial as the two teams split the six singles draws. Baruch took two of the first three points after Srivastava defeated Rosenberg and Bauer bested Gonzalez by identical 6-0, 6-2 finals. Crowley secured the first singles win for Manhattanville in sixth position, defeating Seidman 6-3. 6-1. Goodwin defeated Kaylie 6-3. 6-3 in No. 4 Singles, while Schlapak picked up a 6-3. 6-2 win over Liam Cooper in the fifth flight. While Hourihan would fall in the final single matchup to finish, a 6-4, 6-1 loss to Tham in the top flight, the Valiants were able to secure the match win on the heels of the split.
