Men's Tennis Wins 5-4 Thriller at Farmingdale

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – In their tightest-played match of the season, the Manhattanville College men's tennis team remained undefeated in conference play on Wednesday evening with a 5-4 victory at Farmingdale. The Valiants improve to 6-5 on the year and are now 3-0 in Skyline play.

Manhattanville took two of the three doubles points, which proved to be crucial in the final match results. Dylan Crowley (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) and Max Moeller (Crestwood, N.Y./Iona Prep) picked up the point for the Valiants in No. 3 Doubles with an 8-5 win over Dylan Poblete and Mario Contreras, while the duo of Ryan Rosenberg (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) and Luis Gonzalez (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) dropped an 8-4 decision to Mark Baker and Cooper Everett in the second flight. It was in the top position that the Valiants earned what ended up being the decided point of the night in a classic. Nick Schlapak (Dover, N.H./Dover) and Weston Goodwin (Freeport, ME/Freeport High School) took on the Rams' duo of Alan Sabovic and Matthew Waterhouse in a contest that went to breaker at seven games apiece. The Valiants were able to take the deciding game in an 7-4 tie breaker, heading into singles play with a 2-1 advantage.

The two teams split the six singles draws, earning Manhattanville the match win. Goodwin was engaged in another tight one in the No. 3 position, defeating Waterhouse 6-1 in the first set before taking the second 7-6 after a 7-4 breaker. Schlapak bested Ethan Cintron 6-1, 7-5 in the fourth position, while Shiel Loganadan (New York, N.Y./Mary McDowell Friends) earned the Valiants their fifth point in No. 6 Singles with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Vincent Manzi. Crowley dropped a three-set affair to Everett in No. 5 Singles, 2-6, 7-5, 4-6. Rosenberg was blanked by Baker in No. 1 Singles 6-0, 6-0, while Gonzalez was defeated by Sabovic 7-5, 6-1 in the second position.
