KINGS POINT, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College men's tennis team was back in action on Saturday as the Valiants remained perfect in conference play with a 6-3 win at Merchant Marine. The Valiants are now 7-5 overall and 4-0 against Skyline foes.
The Valiants took two of the three doubles points, earning the win in the second and third flights.
Ryan Rosenberg (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) and
Luis Gonzalez (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) were victorious in No. 2 Doubles, defeating Gabby Eitkis and Chris Hirano 8-4. In the third position, it was
Dylan Crowley (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) and
Max Moeller (Crestwood, N.Y./Iona Prep) earning the point with an 8-2 victory over Demme Kraut and Isabelle Termulo. The duo of
Nick Schlapak (Dover, N.H./Dover) and
Weston Goodwin (Freeport, ME/Freeport High School) fought admirably in the top position, dropping the 8-6 decision to RJ Novak and Connor McQuade.
Singles play saw three contests go to a third set in a number of back-and-forth affairs. In all, the Valiants were able to take four of the six draws to earn the match victory. In the No. 1 position, Rosenberg outlasted Hirano 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (7-3). Gonzalez found himself in a similarly tight matchup, falling to Novak 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 5-7 in the second position. Goodwin was able to hold on for the win in No. 3 singles over Eitkis, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Crowley notched a 6-3, 6-1 win over Kraut in the No. 5 position, while Loganadan earned the 6-0, 7-5 win in the sixth slot against John Guettlein. Schlapak was defeated in the No. 4 draw by McQuade, 5-7, 0-6.
