Men's Soccer Battles to 1-1 Draw With Stevens in Season Opener

PURCHASE, N.Y. – In a game where offensive chances were few and far between, the Manhattanville College men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw against Stevens on Thursday evening. The decision makes the Valiants 0-0-1 to begin the year.

The two teams combined for just three total shots on net, with just two coming off the boots of Valiant attackers. Still, despite the limited opportunities, Manhattanville was able to capitalize in the team's one chance in the second as Matt Rabadi (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay Senior) headed in an assist from Michael Mezzina (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Morris Catholic) to tie up the game 1-1 at 70:24.

The two teams battled to a 0-0 stalemate after the opening half before the Ducks finally struck first early in the second period. Just 1:16 out of halftime, Sean Masur beat Manhattanville netminder Luis Granados (Pasadena, Calif./St. Francis) to put the visitors up 1-0 on the first shot of the half. Things remained quiet until Rabadi was able to get the Valiants on the board, but that would ultimately be all for either side as the final minutes ran off.

Granados did not get the opportunity to make a play on another shot himself, as the Valiants put themselves in the way of numerous Stevens shot attempts that were otherwise locked in on the net. The willingness of the Manhatanville defenders to throw their bodies in front of shots allowed the Valiants to fight for the draw.

Kelvin Osorio (Long Island, N.Y./Sachem North) recorded Manhattanville's only other shot attempt in the game. The Ducks held an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks on the night.
