GENEVA, N.Y. – Kicking off day one of the William Smith Classic, the Manhattanville College field hockey team was defeated by host William Smith on Saturday morning 4-0. The loss drops Manhattanville's record on the season to 0-4.
The Herons were relentless on the offensive side of the field, firing off 33 shots in the contest. 
Florence Harrison (Melbourne, Australia/Balwyn High School) was tested early and often in the cage for the Valiants, making a season-high 13 saves. The sophomore had her busiest quarter in the second, recording seven stops.
William Smith got on the board early, capitalizing on a penalty corner in the second minute that resulted in Lauren Jackson scoring on the team's first shot of the morning. Molly Dutton would add a tally in the second quarter to give the Herons a 2-0 halftime lead.
Emily Leonard and Sofia Pattillo would each find the back of the cage for William Smith in the third quarter to blow the game open for the home team.
The Valiants were held without a shot until the fourth quarter. 
Abbey Playle (Reading, England/Leigh High School) ended the day with a pair of shot attempts, while 
Ava Panzer (Pawling, N.Y./Pawling) logged the team's lone shot on a goal, and attempt that was turned away by Kristen McCormick in the Heron goal.
William Smith held a 10-1 penalty corner advantage in the contest.
