AMHERST, Mass. – On the road for the first time in the 2022 season, the Manhattanville College men's soccer team suffered their first loss of the year, falling to No. 2 ranked Amherst College 3-0. The Valiants stand at 2-1-1 following the defeat.
The Valiants were shutout for the first time this season, being held to just four shots total and one on goal.
Matt Rabadi (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay Senior) recorded the lone shot on net, while
George Simpson (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) recorded a team-high two shots.
Gabriel Jefferies (Tunbridge Wells, U.K./Ridge (N.J.)) accounted for the remaining Valiant shot.
After making his collegiate debut last season against the same Mammoths team,
Luis Granados (Pasadena, Calif./St. Francis) manned net for the Valiants. The junior was able to keep a potent Amherst attack off the board in the first half, making four saves to send the game to halftime still scoreless.
Amherst remained aggressive in the second, firing 11 shots in the final 45 minutes. The Mammoths finally broke through Granados in the 50
th minute as Jonny Novak was able to put the home team ahead. Amherst extended their lead with a Simon Kalinauskas goal in the 71
st minute and Aidan Curtis' insurance tally in the 86
th.
Granados ended the night with six total saves in a complete game effort. His goals-against average now sits at 1.09 as he suffers his first loss of the year.
Amherst drew eight corner kicks to Manhattanville's three on the night.
