MADISON, N.J. – After a very successful weekend at the King's College Invitational, the men's tennis team competed in their first dual match of the fall season, falling to Drew University, 6-3.
The No. 1 doubles position was the first match to conclude, as the team of
James Hourihan (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) and
Weston Goodwin (Freeport, ME/Freeport High School) were defeated by Avi Perera and Bret Schuler, 8-5.
Dylan Crowley (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) and
Max Moeller (Crestwood, N.Y./Iona Prep) had the strongest showing at No. 3 doubles as they won in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (7-1), against John Dickey and Jack Polvere.
Luis Gonzalez (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) and
Derwin Guzman (Harlem, N.Y./Frederick Douglass Academy) were the last to finish at No. 2 doubles, falling to Leo Ambrogio and Daryl Wong, 8-6.
For singles, Gonzalez fell to Wong in the No. 2 position 6-2, 6-3. Hourihan in the No.1 slot picked up the first Manhattanville singles win defeating Shivendra Perera, 6-0, 6-1. Crowley lost in the No. 5 position to Ambrogio 6-2, 6-0.
Shiel Loganadan (New York, N.Y./Mary McDowell Friends) defeated Santo Carroccia in the fourth flight, 6-2, 6-1 to give the Valiants three individual points on the night.
Jaime Peredo (Uruapan, México/Instituto Morelos) took to the court in the No. 6 slot and was defeated by Schuler by a pair of 6-2 sets., In the third flight, Goodwin was defeated by Dan Blumenthal 7-5, 6-4.
The Valiants will take a break before finishing up their fall season at home on Saturday Oct. 22 at 10 a.m. against New Jersey City University.
