GORHAM, MAINE – The Manhattanville College field hockey team was unable to mount a response to six straight goals by the University of Southern Maine on Sunday morning, falling to the host Huskies by a final of 7-1. The Valiants fall to 0-2 to open up the year with the loss.
Southern Maine scored twice in each of the first three quarters as the Valiant attack was stymied. Manhattanville was held without a shot in the first period and held to just five total throughout the contest, three of which were on target on net.

Trailing 6-0 in the fourth quarter, the Valiants were able to break up the shutout shortly after
Ava Panzer (Pawling, N.Y./Pawling) took a penalty corner in the 55
th minute.
Abbey Playle (Reading, England/Leigh High School) received the corner and passed
Alyssa Monahan (East Fishkill, NY/John Jay High School) who was able to fire a shot past Eleanor Folsom to get on the board with her first goal of the season. Southern Maine would add one more goal before the end of regulation to earn the 7-1 win.
For the Huskies, Sage Drinkwater led the home team's attack effort with a pair of goals. Samantha Ellis, Ginny Twitchell, Adelle Surette, Emma Samson and Abigail Chartier each ended the day with a goal for Southern Maine.
In addition to Monahan's tally, Playle and
