Women's Soccer Drops Road Tilt at Rowan, 3-1

GLASSBORO, N.J. – The Manhattanville College women's soccer team was unable to overcome a 25 shot attack by Rowan University on Wednesday night, falling to the Profs by a final of 3-1. With the loss, the Valiants fall to 0-3 to begin the year.

Rowan controlled the contest all evening long, firing 14 shots in the first half followed by another 11 in the final 45 minutes. In all, the Profs threw 16 shots on net to make for a busy night in the office for Manhattanville goalkeeper Macey Girard (Branford, Conn./Branford). The rookie made a season-high 13 saves in the contest.

The Profs would get on the board nine minutes into the contest as Nina Carlson was able to fire in a pass from Natalie Pantalone to beat Girard to the left side. In the 31st minute, Carlson would strike again, this time off an assist by Jillian Jankowski to put the home team ahead 2-0. Girard would make seven saves in the opening 45 minutes.

Rowan continued to bring the pressure all night long, finally getting through Girard again in the 66th minute as Jankowski scored off an assist by Liana SanFelice.

Held to just two shots total up to that point in the game, Natalie Aracena (Bronx, N.Y./Riverdale Kingsbride Academy) was able to break up the shutout in the 68th minute with an unassisted goal. Aracena has now scored both of Manhattanville's goals this season.

Aracena ended the night with two of Manhattanville's three shot attempts, with her other going wide left earlier in the second half. Jennifer Xiong (Connelly Springs, N.C./East Burke) recorded the Valiants' only shot in the first half of play.

Rowan held an 11-3 advantage on corner kicks in the contest.
