CORTLAND, N.Y. – ÂÂÂÂThe Manhattanville College men's hockey team was unable to respond to three straight Red Dragon goals on Tuesday night, falling 4-1 at Cortland. The Valiants conclude non-conference place with a 6-8-1 record.
Cortland would outshoot the visiting Valiants 39-28, building out a 3-0 advantage through the first two periods. Manhattanville would hold an 11-9 shot advantage through the opening 20 minutes but it would be the Red Dragons taking a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Tyler Roy (Brighton, MI/Neumann University) would successfully turn away the first seven shots he saw on the night, but with 57 seconds remaining in the period, Anthony Bernardo would strike off assists by Jona Hildreth and Johnny Facchini.
The Red Dragons netted two more in a 1:22 span in the second. Devlin O'Kane fired in a shot from Nick Grupp and Hildreth to put the home team up 2-0. Soon after it would be Nate Berke lighting the lamp courtesy of passes from Geordan Buffoline and Colby Seitz to take a three goal advantage into the final period.
Manhattanville would break the shutout 8:02 into the third as
Dylan Pollak (New Fairfield, Conn./Selects Academy (18U AAA)) notched his third goal of the season.
Noah Bradley (Lancaster, Pa./Philadelphia Revolution (EHL)) and Roy would be credited with the assists on the senior's goal to pull the Valiants within two. Despite finally breaking through on the scoreboard, Manhattanville would be limited to just six shots in the final period, preventing the team from getting any closer on their comeback effort. Cortland would put the game away with 1:09 to play in regulation as Seitz scored on Grupp's second assist of the night to give the Red Dragons the 4-1 advantage.
In his first action in the crease since Dec. 3, Roy would finish with 35 saves. The senior goalkeeper now holds a 3.72 goals-against average through six appearances.
Nick Prestia (Niagara Falls, Ont./Pickering Panthers (OJHL)) fired a team-high five shots on net for the Valiants while
Troy Crosson (Hatfield, Pa./New Jersey Rockets (NCDC)) added four.
Manhattanville went 0-for-5 on their power play opportunities, firing eight total shots with the man advantage. The Valiants were successful in killing off all three Cortland power plays, holding the Red Dragons to three shots.
Cortland went 43-36 in the faceoff circle.
